A sad song with soothing lyrics. Harris at his best in orchestration. The flute piece in the first interlude followed by guitar is mind-blowing. A difference is Harris has used flute in three different ways in the first interlude itself.

Second interlude is the best part of this song. Starting with a female humming, followed by piano (or keyboard) and then a short violins blended with flute, then again a short keyboard piece. Kudos!!!! No doubt, this one song from Harris is close to my heart. :-) It's sad to know that it's been a long time since HJ delivered this type of soothing melody.

Listen to first interlude,

Listen to second interlude,

Regards,
Vinith

Vennilave (AR Rahman)

One of the best compositions of our legend ARR. The best parts of this song are the rhythm and the keyboard usage in the interlude.

The first interlude has a beautiful Sitar followed by Violins. Enthralling.

Next comes the master piece. From 3:36 to 4:08. Keyboard followed by Violins with Sitar towards the end. Truly Mezmerising. I just couldn’t avoid tears, brimming in my eyes whenever I listen to this second interlude.

You do have a short Violins interlude (between 1st and 2nd interludes), just before Sadhana enters. The same piece which comes at the end of the song as postlude.

Overall this song is one of my all time favorites from ARR. This song does deserve a place in Top-10 compositions of ARR. I cannot forget this melody in my lifetime. The mild rhythm, minimal instruments usage, excellent orchestration are the greatest plus points of this song. The tune is simple yet vert beautiful. Neha Bashin's voice is seductive. This one song is enough to prove Yuvan's orchestration ability.

The song forgoes a prelude but has wonderful interludes and a postlude. There are only four major instruments I can hear in this song. They are the percussion, saxophone, guitar and a very very mild symphony that comes intermittently in the background.

Percussion that starts exactly from the 22nd (or 23rd, when "Adangamale" line comes) second of the song sets the pace of the song. The flow that starts here remains the same till the end of the song.

The first interlude is formed by the Saxophone piece while the second interlude has the Saxophone piece followed by a beautiful Guitar. Listen to this guitar. Its just amazing!! The song has a beautiful postlude, Saxophone again!

Listen to 1st Interlude,

Listen to 2nd Interlude,

When does the Symphony come then? I hope Yuvan comes up with more such melodies in future.

To download these interludes,

http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/5/17/1915834/Pesukiren1.mp3
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/5/17/1915834/Pesukiren2.mp3

Regards,

Vinith

"Rakkamma" - Thalapathi

This is my first post on this blog. I thought that the first post should be about a song with grand orchestration perhaps the best song in TFM (or even IFM). Hence my pick is Rakkamma song from Thalapathi.

Rakkama is one of the well orchestrated songs in IFM. IMO, the best orchestrated song in IFM. It's a well known fact that this song was in World's Top 10 songs for a long time. The violin arrangement in this song is absolutely mind-blowing. Raaja's creativity at its height. The song starts with a solo Guitar prelude, then comes the stunning symphony which can be heard throughout the song. SPB's voice is another plus in this song. You can enjoy this legend's voice thoroughly especially when he sings "hmmm...hmmm" at the end of the song. Kudos!

Another beautiful part in this song is the slowpaced bit song at the end of the song. Is that what you call creativity?
Overall, a breathtaking composition!!!

Listen to the interludes here,

Prelude,

First interlude,

Second interlude,

Closing humming,

Isn't that mind-blowing?

Watchout this space for more such mind-blowing preludes and interludes!
